Unit 10 - TS4991

Christine Pena
Implementation of a Network Plan for Miami-Dade College
Unit 10: 02/27/05 to 02/28/05

Task 1: Deliver implementation and presentation of the new network plan to the staff (dean, faculty, etc.)

Task 2: Gather feedback and schedule meeting with network staff for additional development, finish the plan for final approval.

I have delivered the presentation of the final implementation plan to all staff.

I have received feedback from all staff in which we added some additional development, just some adjustments. I reviewed the changes with Dr. Robinson, and after some changes, I gave a copy of the original and the final plan for final approval. [Completed]

They have congratulated me, and I felt very happy because it was a big effort that I have made for a better infrastructure, where I have cooperated and gained more knowledge and experience. [Completed]

Major accomplishments:

The plan has been approved. Task 1 & 2 have been successfully completed.

No major decisions, just continue with the plan as it has been approved by all members.

[Answer all questions below.]

1) What helpful feedback did you get in the class (instructor, classmates) and outside the class (user, stakeholder, beneficiary, mentor, expert advisor, others)? What did you learn from this feedback?

Excellent feedback I have received from all members. Also, I would like to say thank you one more time to Dr. Robinson for helping me all of this time.

2) What resources did you use this week (e.g., people, money, equipment, systems, or software)? Did you add new resources? What was your learning?

Internet, e-mail, and MS Word, copies for all members after some changes in the network plan were made.

3) What research did you perform this week that was assisting and/or literature based? What is your findings/learning?

I have decided to put the plan online. My graphs have been approved by all members of all departments involved. Indeed, my money that I have required for buying the equipment has been approved too. Then, we can begin to install them soon.

4) What did you learn this week in general in producing your project?

I have learned more every time that I have met with the staff and members. However, I am very happy for the entire team who has worked very hard. Several times, we worked overtime, because we have encountered problems with connections, and some operating system with the software or the LAN. Fortunately, we can fix inasmuch as I have worked with several experts in this field. I am so proud to be a part of the team, and to help with the project on all campuses.

By the way, we have some failures, that we can solve immediately, the cable and software after they had been installed encountered problems, but my team and Dr. Robinson who is an expert in this field, I know that we will fix it. Our team is going to develop a network testing system as well as a permanent logistical support team that will be trained to use the network testing system which will be a combination of all existing SNMP compatible hardware and several SNMP software suites along with several other baselining/performance/inventory/traffic monitoring hardware and software tools.

[Answer all questions below.]

1) What went well this week? What didn't?

This week we have some failures, but in my opinion, these problems we handled as experts. I was lucky to have a great and expert team to work with me.

2) How well did you stick to your project schedule? Despite the situations that arose this week I was able to accomplish the project management tasks, we worked on schedule. The problems encountered on the network itself will be resolved since several of the members feel very sure that they know what is causing the problem.

3) How prepared are you to conclude your project in Unit 10 as required in this course?

After some roadblocks, I think that I am more prepared, because now; I could say that I am more secure, and have acquired more experience after some failures.

4) How likely is it that you will need to resort to your contingency plan?

No, I don't need to resort to the contingency plan.
